Apologies to anyone whose name does not appear
in the
results today – the clip cards were battling to stay on the
strings with the
wind that was roaring around! Most competitors, however, seemed to
find it a nice
cooling relief. Thanks to Bruce Cassey (and Panda) for today’s
courses. What
you really should have done is offer to take Panda with you on
your run – she could
have lead you to all the controls, as long as she did not see any
swallows to
chase on the way!
Next week Summer Nav moves to WEDNESDAY, 13th
Feb, at the Auckland Domain, starting from near the Band Rotunda.
Registration
will be in The Crescent, near the intersection with Football Rd.
We also have the first of the forest events for
2013, on
SUNDAY 17th February, at the end of Rimmer Rd, Woodhill
Forest,
starts between 10am and 12.30. Make sure you mark this down on
your calendar
now! This event, however, is dependent on the forest not being closed due to fire
risk. Please watch
the AOC web site before the event to ensure it has not had to be
cancelled. In
preparation for this event if there are any SummerNav orienteers
who have not
yet tried a forest event we will hold a brief coaching session at
the end of
the event next Wednesday to give you a few pointers to forest
orienteering.
This will take place at about 7.15 so you can do your run first.
If you are interested
in taking part in this please tell us at registration when you
arrive. This forest
event is the first of the A Series
– a series of events to be run on Sundays by the 3 Auckland clubs
over the next few
months. These events will have a choice of 8 courses (4 red
(difficult), 2 orange
(A little easier but require you to use a compass and read the
contours), one
yellow (fairly easy, controls all visible from and within 50m of a
track or
linear feature) and one white (very easy - controls on tracks or
linear
features, with a control at every decision point). They will be
ideal for
people new to forest orienteering but also of a high standard to
give the
experienced orienteer plenty of good practice leading up to the
Nationals at
Easter.
PLEASE NOTE – there is an error in the printed
SummerNav brochure
for the final event of the year at Alexandra Park. It is listed as
Wednesday 19th
March. This should be TUESDAY 19th March
