Coming events:
This Sunday 22 March: 2 orienteering events at the same place
(details below)
First 10-12 is a training session then
Second a forest event with start times from noon to
1:30pm.
Next Thursday 26th March – the second last
of this seasons Summer Series
Sunday 29th March MTBO
Thank you to the Counties Manukau Club and Michael
Rodhe in particular for running the event today. It is very nice to have a
day off (but the CMOC has had it very busy with 2 events in 2 days).
The next Summer Series event is on the Big King map in
Mt Roskill next Thursday (26th). We will be starting behind the
Foodtown supermarket in the Three Kings Plaza car park. Best access is from
Mt Eden Rd but you can get there by entering from Mt Albert Rd and coming
down the back between the Thirsty Whale and the Municipal buildings. This is
one of Auckland lesser known volcanoes with great views from the top. If you
don’t know it – it is a must. Those that know the area will love coming back
for the fun orienteering!
Promotional event Sunday 22nd March on the White
Lightning map. This is at the northern end of the Kaipara Peninsula. Access
this by going to Parakai and heading up the peninsula (about 45 mins from
Parakai). Once through Parakai the road becomes South Head Road. Follow this
road until you reach Trig Rd on your left just before the seal ends. Follow
Trig Rd for about 1km and turn right into the forest at the northern
headquarters. Allow 80 – 100 minutes driving from central Auckland.
Start times from MIDDAY ONLY until 1.30pm. 3 Red
courses, 2 orange courses, and a yellow and white course, so 4 courses to
suit newcomers and juniors.
Training Exercises from 10 am till midday.
There 3 exercises involving compass bearings,
aiming off, and contour reading. We have some coaches available to help with
these, and would appreciate any experienced orienteers also coming and
helping newcomers.
Costs are $10 for event and $7 for juniors, plus $3 for
sportident hire and $5 and $3 juniors for the training, with any helpers
free training.
MTBO Sunday 29th March:
3 hour Rogaine in Riverhead Forest beginning at 11 am with registration from
10 am. See www.maptalk.co.nz events for more details.
