Welcome back to the Summer Series in 2006 and the second half of the 2005/2006 series.
It was a really stormy Summer Series event tonight. We were delighted that so many braved the weather and came out and enjoyed their run on Big King. A great number of new people came out too. It is great to have you with us. We usually have better weather! Almost all of the control flags were trashed tonight – first the rain made them soggy and then the wind tore them up. One of the few that wasn’t was then eaten by a snail! But don’t worry - we have more for next week
Thanks very much to our new course setter John Mackay and controller Mervyn Paitry for the courses tonight. They gave lots of route choice which makes the conversations after the run that much more interesting.
Coming Events:
Next week (Tuesday 31st) we are on another volcanic cone – Mt Eden. We are starting from Tahaki Reserve which is on Mt Eden Road, just on the city side of the entrance to the hill. There is limited parking in the reserve and so we suggest you find a spot in the streets opposite. There is also parking up the hill – go up the hill to the round-about and then go left to behind the potted plants and there is quite a lot of space there.
A message from the Urban Safari planners - Planning for the Trans Tasman Masters Games Orienteering - Urban Safari event is well underway and if you are interested in entering then do take a look at the web site and consider your choice of other sports. We have had a lot of fun both getting the map together and also setting questions which largely explore the local history, geology and culture of part of the North Shore. Try checking the North West Orienteering club web site at www.geocities.com/nwocnz for information or go direct to the Games site at www.mastergames.co.nz and there you will be able to register your interest in participating. If you have enjoyed competing in the "Summer Series" then we invite you have to have a go at either the one hour or three hour Urban Safari event on March 17th, starting at 4pm and 6pm from the Takapuna Yacht Club rooms in the Strand, Takapuna. TT Masters Games Registration booklets are available with full details of the event from the Summer Series campermatic.
