Auckland Night Street Rogaine - Wed 2 June 2010 Results
The weather gods were on our side last
night to turn on a beautiful evening for exploring the streets of
Ellerslie and rather further afield. We were most impressed at the
effort all the competitors put in, heading for the far reaches of the
map and not even being daunted by a visit to the trig on Mt Wellington
(you would not have expected us to be able to resist putting a control
there, now would you!!) We decided that was the one control we could
place during the day yesterday when it was just beautiful up there but
we were assured by at least one competitor that it was still lovely at
9pm!
The maximum points on offer were720 so
you will see from the results that some of the 3 hour competitors only
missed visiting a small number – well done indeed!
Our very warm thanks to Pete and Jen for so kindly allowing us to use
their home as a starting place – it makes a huge difference to have an
area like their car port, with shelter and light, to be able to gather
in.
This was the final in this series of street events but there is plenty
more to come! In the city we have a series of Saturday afternoon
‘sprints’ (ie courses of 2-3km) in July and then another night street
series in September before Summer Series returns once again at the end
of October. In the forest, on Sundays there are events about every
second weekend all through winter/spring. The pine forest is just
lovely in winter as it remains dry underfoot when the rest of the world
has turned to mud. Keep watching the website for details of the events
to come.
