With the threatening rain holding off until everyone had gone home and the ever popular Domain venue, we once again saw a great turn out of folk bringing the park to life. It was especially good to welcome more new faces and welcome back those returning after first goes in the last couple of weeks. After being lulled into believing that this orienteering was simple in the friendly environments of Ellerslie and Nga Parae Mataora a few people came back rather muddied and tired from some of the more jungle like parts of the Domain bush. Hopefully most of you got full value for your money on Malcolm’s challenging courses and I had several comments about being surprised at what is tucked away in corners of the Domain from those orienteering there for the first time. This is one of the delights of orienteering – being taken to places that you had no idea were there, even in areas you believed you knew very well. Thanks, Malcolm and Pete, for designing such an interesting set of courses.
We had a little bit of a concern when we came to leave this evening as we were still in possession of a large set of keys. After close inspection of every car we could find anywhere in the Domain we eventually came to the conclusion that there was not a match in the area so hopefully someone had drive home using another set – I do hope you had another set of house keys too! Your keys can be claimed by phoning us on 5755695 or work 3737599/86360.
Apologies to those with missing (or incorrect) results listed tonight – the combination of damp air and ink pens lead to a ‘runny mess’ on many of the cards tonight creating a challenge that defeated us in some cases – we will try and ensure no ink pens get put out in the future.
NEXT WEEK the event is on THURSDAY, 9th December on the Panmure Basin map, starting from Peterson Reserve, in Peterson Rd, by the model Railway, beside Waipuna Lodge. The longest course will visit Pakuranga as well. If you don’t know this area, do come and investigate it – there are some lovely places around the edge of the water. You may have to give way to the shags, however. There must have been 40 of them waddling around on the track, devouring fish when we were there the other evening.
For those of you who decided to visit the web address we gave last week, of our holiday venue in Tonga, you may have got a bit of a shock about what we do on holiday – we believe it is the address of a Russian bride agency!! For a more refined holiday in Tonga you might like to visit www.popao.org instead!!!
