There was certainly lots of activity in the Domain tonight, despite the arrival of the rain at the end of the night, making navigation in the bush areas somewhat tricky. Patrick and Julian had set everyone a fair challenge but in typical orienteering fashion most people rose to the challenge and returned smiling. Course 2 was particularly long tonight so congratulations to all who completed it and very understandable to those of you who decided to cut it short. It is often more fun to take on one of the more difficult courses and take a shortcut on it than to do an easier, less challenging course. It appears as if one of the controls may have walked over the course of the night – earlier starters found it but it may have been moved when some of you went through. Sorry if this affected you but controls are a bit vulnerable in city parks.

REMINDER - Auckland OC is hosting the ORIENTEERING NATIONALS this Easter. There are lots of courses available at an event of this size so you can find one suitable for you. You do not need to belong to a club to enter but if you don’t belong you have to pay an extra one day levy to the National body so if you would like to compete it might be sensible to join a club especially if you wanted to compete in more than one event. Standard entries close this Friday, although late entries, at a higher cost, can be made for another week. There is a sprint event around the University on Friday, a long distance and a middle distance in Woodhill forest on Saturday and Sunday respectively and a relay on Monday (also in Woodhill Forest). Get your entry in today so you do not have to pay a higher entry fee. If you have not been to an event of this sort before and would like advice on what course to enter feel free to reply to this email and ask. You can find all the details and how to enter on the club website (address at the end of this email, and then by clicking on the competition logo at the top of the web page.

NEXT WEEK is the second to last SummerNav event for this season so don’t miss out. It will be on THURSDSAY, 15th March at Eastern beach, starting from the reserve at the eastern end of the beach It is a full tide so pop your togs in the car, along with some BBQ food to cook up on the BBQ’s in the reserve (and hope for better weather than tonight!) As a little extra to keep you entertained we will be setting up another small maze event – not part of any course this time – just something you can do before your run as a warm up, or afterwards as a cool down! We will use electronic timing for the maze so please bring along your e card if you own one.

GODZone. Congratulations to club member Stu Lynch who was in the team that came in 2nd earlier today. Great effort Stu and the rest of the team.
