NIGHT EVENT THIS SATURDAY 27th
February Ambury
Regional Park
Next week THURSDAY 3rd March Epsom Campus
Forest event SUNDAY 6th March
It was a hot one tonight to make up for last
week’s rain.
Western Springs is certainly a delightful park for exploring, even
if it did
become an obstacle race at times to dodge the pukekos, geese and
rabbits. Our
thanks to Katie and Alina for taking us to some lovely places on
the courses
tonight.
Next week the event moves to THURSDAY 3rd
MARCH!!! at Epsom Campus, with the event centre at the end of St
Andrews Rd.
However before then we have our NIGHT EVENT this Saturday 27th
February, at Ambury Park, at the end of Ambury Rd, by the rangers
headquarters.
Young ones who are not so keen on the real dark can start from
about 8pm
although we do encourage you to leave it until it is at least
starting to get
dark so they need to use a torch, which is half of the fun. Others
should wait
until it is really dark – probably some time between 8.30 and
8.45. Last starts
at 9.30. We may have a little bit of supper for you when you get
back. Don’t
forget a good head lamp or torch with batteries which will last
for the time
you are out – it can get very tricky if your torch dies half way
round – there are
no street lights!! Club members, this is your chance to get in
some practice
before we head off to the Katoa Po Night Relays at Taupo in a
couple of weeks.
A night not to be missed!!
Also NOT TO BE MISSED is the FIRST
FOREST EVENT SUNDAY 6th March. Woodhill
Forest, access from Restall
Rd, off SH16 about 10 minutes beyond Kumeu. Starts any time
between 10am and
12.30. There will be 9 courses (plus a string course for the real
little ones) ,
so a course suitable for all. There will also be a coaching
session after your
run, starting about 1pm, for those who are newer to forest
orienteering. There
will be plenty of help available on the day but we will also have
some forest
maps at the event next Thursday and if anyone would like to we
will have a
brief talk at the end of the event (7PM) for people who have not
yet
orienteered in the forest, to talk through a few things which
might help you in
the forest. We are so sure that you will love forest orienteering
that first
time forest orienteers will be offered a free run at the Sunday
event . Make sure
you have it on your calendar!
