Ambury Park must be one of the most pleasant
places to run
around on a summers evening and coupled with Tommy’s innovative
courses tonight
people all returned with a smile on their face. Those on course 1
(a record 47
controls!!) and course 2 (34 controls) may have been suffering a
little from
back ache from all the bending to clip the controls but their
brains had
certainly been kept alert.
Sadly SummerNav is now drawing to an end for
2015/2016 with
the final event for the season next TUESDAY 22nd March in
Auckland Domain,
starting from the Titoki St area, behind the Museum. The reason
for us needing
to end at this time is that darkness is really starting to descend
much earlier
now. Particularly in the bush parts of the Domain it will start to
get very
hard to read a map quite early, so do try and get there for a
prompt start so
you are not caught out at the end. We always need our headlamps to
do the
control collecting at this final event.
Although SummerNav is drawing to a close we
have a year
packed full of events still to come, with forest/farm events on
most Sundays as
well as city events – our 2 night street event series – on
Tuesday’s in May,
starting 10th May, for 4 weeks and on Wednesdays for 4
weeks,
starting 31st August. Mass start at 7pm. Also the city
Short O
series 4pm on Saturday afternoons for 4 weeks, starting 11th
June. More details to
come. There will be programmes
of events to collect at the Domain next Tuesday and watch the
website for details
of venues.
The next of the Sunday events is this Sunday,
20th
March at Totara Park. Start times 10.00am to 12.00pm. Entry via
Wairere Road
Off Hill Road, Manurewa. This is followed by Easter with many club
orienteers
heading down to the Nelson region for the National Championships –
good luck to
all heading south.
