THREE EVENTS THIS WEEK - SEE BELOW!!
It was really great for us all tonight to be able to go out on a brand-new map, that none of us knew at all. Our grateful thanks to Kieran for finding and mapping this area for us, and to Kate and Alina for preparing a great set of courses, including a memory course. This takes much more preparation but it was well used and those returning, often having done a memory course for a first time, really enjoyed it.
There are THREE events in the coming week!
On Saturday night (2nd) there is the SummerNav NIGHT event at Hamlins Hill (Mutukaroa Regional Park), entry off Great South Rd, Penrose. Youngsters doing the easiest course (course 3) can start at dusk (probably a bit after 8 – it wants to at least be dark for some of their time out or the fun is lost). Others can start after it is dark (probably from about 8.30) Last starts 9.30. Make sure you bring a good headlamp or torch with batteries that will last – there will be NO moon and there are not too many street lights on Hamlins Hill!!
Sunday 3rd March is the first event of the Auckland Orienteering Series (AOS) for 2019 – If you have yet to try REAL orienteering, this is your chance!! First time to forest/ farm Sunday orienteering will be FREE. There will be BEGINNER coaching at 10.00. (this is aimed at real forest/farm orienteer beginners. You do not need to be a club member to take part. Later in the year there will be more advanced training for club members. There will be 9 courses so a course suitable for all levels of experience, age and fitness. The easiest course (White course) is easier than course 4 at Summer Nav (club members, time to get into training for the Nationals – only 7 weeks away!) Please note, as this is a farm map unfortunately dogs can not go out on the courses for this event. Further information on the AOC website (auckoc.org.nz)
Summer Nav next week is on WEDNESDAY 6th March at Cornwall Park, Greenlane – access off the roundabout at the end of Pohutukawa Drive, towards the Cornwall Park Café
Club Members, don't forget Katoa Po Night Relays at Taupo are on next weekend (9th March) Entries close on Tuesday so make sure you have let your club know you are going to this GREAT event.
