No doubt you all now know why the suburb is called Hillsborough. The start/finish area today must be one of the windiest parts of Auckland. I also got jittery with cold when I was fieldworking the map.

Monte Cecilia is a great park for trees and views. If you haven’t been inside the Pah Homestead before it is well worth a visit. As well as being beautifully restored it has an excellent display of art which is often borrowed from Sir James Wallace’s own collection and reflects his interest in NZ art and unusual quirky items.

Thanks Kieran for the interesting courses. Thanks Hayley and the Stewarts for helping the maze to happen. That was a great idea to test orienteers’ concentration and map reading.

Thanks to residents of Selwyn Heights Retirement Village for your tolerance and allowing to use the property. That certainly added a lot of character to the courses.

Well done to those who braved course 1 and visited Onehunga Bay Reserve on a much less-detailed street map.

There as a small area of purple hatch out-of-bounds in Selwyn Heights Village. Yesterday it was taped off around a fallen tree branch, but this afternoon it was all cleared up. You may have run through it without realising.

See you next week on Wednesday (7th) at Auckland Domain, near the band rotunda. Courses this time from Penelope Salmon and Kieran Woods (again). The area we are in is very close to where there are all the crosses with the names of all those who fell  in WWI. Armistice 100 is centred on 11/11/18, the 100 year anniversary of the end of WW1. The day of our event is when preparation for this commemoration begins so there may be extra traffic and people around. Please be aware this is happening.
