What a change in weather from the weekend. It was a beautiful evening at Eastern beach with many of those who came enjoying a picnic at this lovely part of Auckland, and even a dip in the water! Unfortunately, the MapRun server seemed to be down for the evening so most could not use the timing system sorry, but out of our control – perhaps Covid has hit those who manage the server in Australia!! Our thanks to all the helpers on the night that made the event able to happen by manning the start and collecting controls– John, Martin, Selwyn, Neill, Jeff, Ali, Becky, Sam and Susy. It takes a team for these events to happen and with Covid starting to play a part in who can help on the day we would very much appreciate it if a few more people could help on a convenient night, in particular, to man the start for an hour or collect controls afterwards. A team of control collectors means a small load for everyone and so we can all get away promptly. We have a spreadsheet for helpers HERE so if you were able to add your name somewhere we would be very grateful. While this particularly applies to AOC members we would of course welcome others!!!
Next week Summer Nav is again on TUESDAY, 22nd Feb on the Pt England map, starting in the reserve at the end of Pt England Rd. Unfortunately, the tide will out next week but it is still a pleasant place to picnic.
This Sunday sees the first of the Auckland Orienteering Series on Sundays. This first event is being run by the Counties Manukau Club on Barry Curtis Reserve in Flat Bush – so rather closer to home than our usual AOS events which are out in the forest. It is running under strict COVID restrictions with pre-entry by Thursday night. See HERE for details
