SummerNav Ambury Regional Park Event: 8 2020-12-15

We didn’t dare to hope for yet another lovely fine night for SummerNav but we certainly struck a beauty tonight, with just sufficient breeze to cool it down enough to be able to enjoy the lovely setting of the Ambury map. Our thanks to Aidan and Mervyn for tonight’s well planned and interesting courses – some long legs to suit the runners and take everyone’s breath away mixed with some intricate bits just when your brain was in oxygen debt.

It was great seeing all the animal and bird life which shared the area with us tonight. We were concerned when two early runners on course 3 returned to say their route was going right through a pukeko nest with two newly hatched eggs, two still to hatch and 2 perturbed parents. Aidan hastily ran out some cones to mark off the area so hopefully all later runners were able to avoid the area and the family was able to continue undisturbed. It was also a treat to have the magnificent big Clydesdale horses close to the finish area. They were fascinated by the control in their area and seemed to really enjoy watching people visit it and have a word with them on the way by. Before everyone arrived, the horses seemed to be really enjoying being in a paddock large enough to have a good trot round and watching them gallop across the field was just magic.

As hard as it is to believe, tonight marks the end of SummerNav for 2020. The season always seems such a long one when it begins but before we know it the first half is over. We would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a great holiday break, doing lots of fun things. We look forward to seeing you back refreshed and eager for more orienteering on Thursday 21st January 2021 on the St Kentigern Campus.
